Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David. (Lk. 1:67-68) These were the first words spoken by Zechariah after the long months of silence, as he waited for the words of the angel to be fulfilled in the birth of his son, John, who would be the herald of the Messiah.
